This television cabinet had been painted and stenciled years ago by the home owner. After repainting the room and getting new furniture, she wanted to change the color of the cabinet and make it look more aged. We decided to first paint the entire piece in Country Grey because we were planning on sanding and wanted the base color to come through. Two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White were painted on top of that.  Chalk paint is a popular choice for furniture because it can be easily sanded and the dark wax gives it an Old World look. I applied a coat of clear wax.  After letting that dry,I then brushed on the dark wax to give it the distressed look she wanted. The stencil is a custom-sized, panel stencil from Modello Designs https://modellodesigns.com.  Copper, Bronze, Antique Gold and Espresso metallic craft paints were used in the stencil and the carved design was highlighted with the Espresso paint.  The stencil was lightly sanded to give it that aged appearance.  It looks great!
