The homeowners wanted a new look for the oak corner hutch in their dining room, and decided to update this beautiful piece with color. While they were looking through my samples, I spotted a very striking picture on the wall that contained colors I thought would work perfectly on the piece. We decided on Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in a warm ochre chalk paint and a custom mix of a gray/green chalk paint that the homeowners loved. The inside was painted with the custom color. I decided to highlight the architectural details with dark wax to give it more texture. The homeowner was not fond of the embossed detail across the top of the hutch and wanted to cover it up, but wasn’t sure what would be the best choice. I had some ideas and decided to make up a sample with a copper metallic foil against the ochre paint. She loved the contrast and decided to go with the foil. Here are the before and after pictures. A great transformation for such a pretty piece!
