After purchasing their new home, the homeowners contacted me looking to update the brick fireplace in their newly purchased home. The wife loved the fireplace, but in it’s current condition, it was not what she envisioned for the space. Unfortunately, the previous homeowners put a polyurethane sealer on the bricks so it could not be whitewashed. Since applying stone plaster and glazes was not in the budget, I recommended a neutral base coat and a wash of multiple grey/beige paint colors that coordinated nicely with the new wall color. I typically do a lighter grout color, but the darker gray really made the bricks stand out. The homeowners loved it and couldn’t wait to put their Christmas decorations and stockings on the mantle! It is definitely a beautiful transformation, and they and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
