This trend has become very popular in the last couple of years and can add a completely different look to your home.  The vibrant Moroccan colors and patterns used in this theme can be brought into your home on walls and with furniture and accessories. In the July 2011 issue of Better Homes and Gardens I came across a picture of a beautiful bedroom (shown below) with a Moroccan stencil on the walls.  The previous page featured a pillow that had been stenciled with fabric paints in a smaller Moroccan print. These Moroccan patterns can be used in many areas — a back splash for an easy, colorful update, kitchen cabinets doors, a table top or a room divider for that perfect Moroccan look. There are many ways to incorporate this type of style into your home and personalize it to your taste.

If you love vibrant colors and patterns, then the Moroccan theme may be just what you’ve been looking for!

Decorating: Moroccan Style

Color is the focal point of Moroccan decorating. Influenced by the landscape of Morocco, rich jeweled colors and repeated geometric designs such as circles, diamonds, triangles and arches. The style of Moroccan design is vibrant colors and patterns, elegant rooms and tiled walls and courtyards. Blues and greens are especially fundamental colors in Moroccan interiors due to the Atlantic and Mediterranean influence, so shades of turquoise and sea blue are popular. Colors like gold and yellow found in the surrounding dessert are abundant and can be combined with the vibrant red, oranges inspired by African sunsets. Any of these colors can also be paired with purple, green and blue creating that perfect Moroccan look.

Pretty, yet subtle, blue is a wonderful choice for this back splash.
