Real estate trends show that people are staying put. Whether planning to live there for years or prepping it for sale, what can we do to highlight our homes? Faux design colors have often reflected our need for comfort through warm neutrals like browns and beige. For the remainder of 2010 and into 2011, livelier colors will mirror a more optimistic outlook. Hues of deep reds and purples, vivid blues and greens will be some of the new colors in next year’s palette.
Grays will be a neutral color in 2011 used to balance the deeper color shades. Grays will range from almost white to very dark with hints of blue and green. Gray hues will not only be used in paint and wall colors but will be very popular for furniture and fabrics in 2011.
Keeping green in mind, eco-decorating has been a trend for quite some time and will most definitely continue. Colors inspired by nature will grow in popularity. Wood is even making a comeback with faux wood graining. Other faux finishes that look like wallpaper will continue to be used in our quest to respect nature. Trends will continue to include the use of classic finishing techniques of brick, tile, and marble. Along with this, people are always looking to re-purpose, recycle and reuse items in unique and creative ways. It’s the perfect time to take the plunge and finally update that old family heirloom piece of furniture with an antiqued or distressed finish.
