This old, oak dresser was the perfect piece to paint and stencil.   I painted this piece to give the dresser  an updated look.  Because the varnish on it is very old — sometimes old varnish bleeds through “pink” –, I used a clear spray primer to seal it all in.  Zinsser’s Bulls Eye clear shellac works great.  New hardware was a must and I knew I wanted knobs, so I filled in the holes with joint compound and sanded everything down.  The main color is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.  After priming with the sealer, I painted two coats of the base color.  The trim and stencil color are Provence Annie Sloan Chalk Paint mixed with Old White, a 2:1 ratio.  The stencil is the Aladdin craft stencil from cuttingedgestencils.com.  It was the perfect choice for the fronts of the drawers.  All it needs now is a coat of clear wax!
