This armoire had special meaning for my client who wanted to lighten in up and eventually move it to another space in her home.  She loved the distressed Annie Sloan Chalk Paint wood sample I showed her and it was a go!  I primed the entire piece first with Zisnner’s clear sealer, then a couple of coats of Country Grey.  Normally, sealing is not necessary when using the chalk paint, but the armoire had a very high gloss vanish and I wanted to make sure the old varnish would not bleed through.   This sometimes happens with older pieces.  I applied two more coats of paint in Annie Sloan Old White and it was ready for the final steps.  After applying a coat of clear wax with a tiny bit of dark wax, the piece was ready to be distressed.  I sanded the top layers of paint off to let some of the Country Grey and original color come through.  The result is a warm, rich finish that was just what the homeowner wanted.  The final coat of clear wax was buffed to a soft sheen.
