Metallic Glass Bead Finish

This is one of my favorite finishes, so I was very happy when this homeowner decided to do it in her home.  Tucked underneath a stairway, her powder room was the perfect space.   When I was in Reno last summer at the International Decorative Artisan League’s convention, I learned this finish in a class I took with Kelly King of the Kelly S. King Academy.  It is so striking and elegant, and really gave the powder room the luxurious and dramatic effect the homeowner was looking for.

To start, a rough irregular plaster product was rolled on over the neutral base coat.  A metallic base coat in champagne with randomly brushed on silver metallic paint creates a gorgeous base for the stencil.  The stencil, designed by Jennifer Weber Ferguson of Artistic Painting Studio, was randomly placed throughout the room.  A coffee bean tint was used for the stencil and then lightly sanded to soften the color.  I added finely crushed glass sparkles to the glass bead gel and randomly applied it with a trowel for the final step.  The result is a dazzling wall finish that shimmers.  The crushed glass in the glass bead gel reflects the light from the chandelier making the entire room sparkle.
