Travertine Master Bathroom

A couple of years ago, I did a blue travertine finish in another bathroom in this homeowner’s house.  Travertine is a porous, natural stone material from the limestone family with lots of texture an soft, mottles colors.  The original sample board was done in various shades of beige, but they opted for a bright blue color instead.  However, they liked the warm, beige colors in the original finish so much that when they were ready to remodel their master bathroom, that is what they decided to do.  The finish on these walls was done in multiple steps using glazes in several different colors, crumpled brown packing paper and sea sponges.  Delicate hand-painted veins were added to give the finish the look of travertine marble.

I was also asked to redo the original mirror frame.  Since it was in great shape and the size and style were perfect for the room, the homeowners decided to keep it.  I repainted it using different colors that matched the new walls, but kept the same crackle finish and texture.

The original mirror frame’s gold metallic paint didn’t match the new wall finish.
